Gor Mahia enquire about 3 KSG Ogopa FC players after FKF Cup encounter
By Luke Oluoch, February 26, 2025Division Two side Ogopa has revealed being in contact with Gor Mahia following the clash pitting the two in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Round of 64 clash on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
Despite the match-up ending on a 3-0 against them, Ogopa’s coach, Kassim Otieno, hailed it as a proper learning curve for his charges.
In an interview with People Daily Sports, Kassim disclosed the team’s display was a far cry from their impressive run in the Division Two league.
“The game plan was to have a low block and invite them to our side. Had we scored an early goal from the chances we created, then we could have had a different game. This was a different environment and stage. I feel my players were a bit tense from that,” Kassim said.
The coach further acknowledged the tie as a proud moment for his team having received contacts about a number of his players who stood out against the top-tier opposition.
“It was a good learning moment. We have seen where we need to work on. Finishing is one of them.
“The stage was to market my boys. Some three players had a good game; I have been asked about them by our opponents. It is very encouraging and motivating,” he added.
Round 32 actions
Meanwhile, the FKF Cup round of 32 fixtures was unveiled on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. In the draw, Kenya Premier League sides were kept apart, with only AFC Leopards and Mara Sugar being an all-KPL battle.
Gor will face off against Nairobi opponents Githurai All-Stars (GAS). GAS, as they are popularly known, are two-time champions of the Sakaja Super Cup and riding high in the Division Two FKF league.
The winner from the round will face either Bandari or Al Azizia in the round of 16.
Other KPL sides will fancy their chances, with the draw pitting them against lower-tier sides, with the exception of the Leopards.
Leopards’ Fred Ambani’s team is the only side to have been placed against their top-tier rivals, and a date against Mara Sugar is up in the cards.
Ingwe recently beat the side 2-1 away in Awendo Stadium and the Awendo-based KPL newbies will be relishing their chances not only for revenge but also a Cup upset against the 2017 winners.
Homeboyz vs Samitsi
2023 champions Kakamega Homeboyz, who needed a penalty shoot-out win against TBM Services in Moi Stadium Kisumu, will have a date against Samitsi FC, a fellow Western-based side with a massive following across Kakamega and the entire western region.
