Gor Mahia elections: Teargas, chaos reign as polls proceed at Nyayo Stadium

Chaos has been witnessed at Nyayo Stadium as Gor Mahia conduct their elections on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
In a video shared online, the police were forced to lob teargas at a crowd at the stadium, forcing the people who had gathered there to run for their safety.
The Premier League giants are holding their polls to elect officials who will be in charge of national positions.
Positions contested
The elections board cleared Ambrose Rcahier to defend his chairman’s seat and is facing an opposition from Dolfina Odhiambo.
Other positions being contested for are the club’s chairman and the vice chairperson position that has seen two candidates, Sally Bolo and Victor Omondi, get cleared, with Sam Ochola and Nick Arum set to battle it out for the Secretary General post.
“This is to inform you that the Gor Mahia Football Club Election Board received applications for consideration and clearance to contest the four (4) vacant positions in the management of Gor Mahia Football Club.
“After a thorough scrutiny and review, the election board cleared the following candidates to contest in the forthcoming election. The position of chairperson (the position attracted two nominees), 1. Ms. ODHIAMBO Dolfina Achieng, 2. Mr. RACHIER Ambrose,” the statement read in part.
Philip Nyakwana and Gerphas Okuku will be vying for the position of Honorary Treasurer in the much-anticipated elections that are scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium basketball gymnasium.
