FKF PL Week 25: Gor Mahia set for Kakamega Homeboyz’s test, Ingwe to battle Sofapaka

Football Kenya Federation Premier League action will resume this weekend after almost a month-long break.

The league went into the break to pave the way for the FIFA international window in March. The break allowed the national team, Harambee Stars, and its junior side, Rising Stars, to participate in the Four-Nations tournament held in Malawi.

While Harambee Stars emerged as the winners after beating Zimbabwe in the final held in Lilongwe, the junior side lost to the host in the ultimate clash.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, four matches will be held, with Kariobangi Sharks taking on Tusker in an early kick-off at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Struggling Shabana, who were eliminated from the FKF Cup by AFC Leopards, will host Posta Rangers at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay. Bandari will make a trip to the capital city, where they will be hosted by Ulinzi Stars at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata.

Gor Mahia’s test

The final game of the day will see Gor Mahia clash against Kakamega Homeboyz in Machakos.

This is expected to be a tightly fought encounter given that K’Ogalo will want to win and extend their lead; a seven-point gap at the top. 

Homeboyz were title contenders, but a series of poor performances saw them drop to the seventh position. A win will see them make steps up the ladder in a crowded 4-7 zone.

On Sunday, Bidco United will host KCB at Kenyatta Stadium in an early kickoff. Murang’a Seal and Nzoia will face off on the former’s turf, while Muhoroni Youth will host Nairobi City Stars.

AFC Leopards will face Sofapaka at Nyayo Stadium in a game that will start at 3:00 pm while Kenya Police will play FC Talanta in a late kickoff in Machakos.

Although much of the public eye will be on the top-table teams, considerable limelight will also be shed on the relegation zone.

A win for Tusker will see them at least keep some distance with Gor Mahia, while Bandari will hope for a win that will see them overtake Tusker should the former league champions fumble.

Muhoroni Youth are just above the relegation zone after four wins, 10 draws, and as many losses. 

Shabana have struggled in the season just after making their appearance in the top flight following a splendid campaign in the National Super League last season.
Four wins, six draws, and 14 losses mark their performance.

Nzoia Sugar are at rock bottom and have a tally of just 17 points. This is a dismal performance by the Sugar Millers, given how they were last season.
