Former Gor Mahia coach Logarusic confirms Police interest
Former Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards head coach Zdravko Logarusic has confirmed talks with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League side Police FC.
Promoted in 2021 from the National Super League (NSL), the Police side spent heavily on new signings before the start of the season and in mid-season but still ended up without a trophy . A swift change in coaches did not really help them much and it seems they are aiming at settling for a proven coach with the Croat topping the list.
Police won their last match of the season to end what has been a difficult campaign for them in style by beating Bandari 1-0 at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The team has been under the stewardship of Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ and Musa Otieno. A seesaw season condemned them to struggling to find form and their most notable result was perhaps their 2-0 win against Gor Mahia on March 13.
The Croat has been in the country for the last two weeks and even attended the club’s training sessions.
Speculations rose in the recent past when former Gor Mahia tactician who has been jobless ever since being sacked by the Zimbabwe national team in September 2021 was spotted at the Police camp during their training sessions.
When People Daily sports asked him to clarify on the matter he said “I have been in Kenya for a few weeks now, trying to get a few things together, hopefully I will be back in a few weeks time.”
Zdravko Logarusic watched Kenya Police FC vs Posta Rangers game on Sunday seated next to Police Chairman Nyale Munga and CEO Chris Onguso.
Logarusic alongside Tusker FC coach Robert Matano have been linked heavily with the Police job and as it seems one of the two coaches will definitely land the job.
Matano who on Sunday guided Tusker FC to yet another league title resigned while addressing the media, claiming that the club’s hierarchy was not approving his efforts despite landing back to back titles at Ruaraka.
“I will leave. If there is no respect then there is no need to continue working when no one appreciates your efforts. There is no need at all,” Matano said in a post-match interview.
When asked about his next destination after leaving Tusker, the coach said he is only interested in leaving even if it means staying at home with his family.
“I will go anywhere, even if it means returning home to be with my wife and children,” he said angrily.
