FKF triples Premier League winner’s prize money to Ksh20M
By Joel Masibo, September 16, 2025The Football Kenya Federation, in partnership with a local gaming firm, has officially launched the 2025/26 Premier League season with an increased prize money package to league winners.
Speaking during the official launch at a Nairobi hotel on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, FKF President Hussein Mohammed said the league will feature a prize money pool of Ksh20 million, with the champions taking home Ksh15 million, runners-up Ksh3 million, and third place Ksh2 million, down from the previous Ksh5 million.
Making FKF PL competitive
Mohammed added that the new chapter in Kenyan top-tier football is anchored on accountability, professionalism, and the commitment to restore pride in the game. He said the new prize package is meant to motivate clubs as they compete for top honours.
”For the first time in years, our league champions will be rewarded with prize money befitting a premier competition – Ksh15 million for the winners, Ksh3 million for the runners-up, and Ksh2 million for the second runners-up. This investment not only motivates our clubs and players but also sets the stage for a more competitive and vibrant league,” Mohammed said.
The FKF chief further asked corporate bodies in the country to come on board to strengthen the country’s top-notch football league to attract continental recognition.
”Today marks the start of a new chapter for our top-tier competition. Our goal is clear – to build the league into one of the most vibrant and widely followed leagues in Africa. I call on more corporate partners to join hands with us as we build our league,” Mohammed added.
At the unveiling of the 2025/2026 Football League under the banner of a local betting company, Mohammed also met with representatives of all FKF Premier League clubs, where they discussed key issues on making the competition vibrant.
Joining other sports federations in a meeting chaired by Sports CS Salim Mvurya on September 10, 2025, to deliberate on making sports in Kenya a profitable venture, Mohammed said a collaboration among federations will be central to driving the reforms and investments needed to move Kenyan sport forward.
”A successful sports sector requires more than just talent — it needs a strong legal framework, good governance, proper infrastructure, and a clear path to commercialisation. When these pillars come together, our athletes can compete and excel at the highest levels,” he asserted.
The new Premier League campaign in Kenya will commence on Saturday, September 20, 2025, across different venues in the country.
