FKF reveals plans to build Ksh600M technical centre in Machakos

By , July 24, 2023

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced an ambitious project to construct a state-of-the-art Technical Centre in Machakos, worth Kshs 638,730,007.

The entire project is set to be fully funded by FIFA. FKF President, Nick Mwendwa, expressed his excitement about the project, emphasizing its significance in the growth and development of football in Kenya.

FKF responsibility

According to Mwendwa, each member country of FIFA is required to have a technical centre, and it is the responsibility of FKF to ensure that Kenya has one as well.

“Each member has a technical centre or must have a technical centre. In Kenya, we didn’t build one and we have been tasked by FIFA to build one. We have been tasked by FIFA that we must build a technical centre. It was our job to choose where that technical centre will go,” Mwendwa announced while in Machakos.

He added that Machakos was chosen as the location for the centre due to several key factors that make it an ideal site.

Why FKF chose Machakos

“I want to tell you why we chose Machakos, it is not far from the airport and with the infrastructure, it is just 30 from Nairobi. Secondly, the willingness of the Governor to avail land. We have a 33-year lease which mandates us to build the centre,” Mwendwa added.

The technical centre is designed to encompass three pitches, including two tuff one grass pitches, surrounded by modern amenities. The centre will also house office spaces and training facilities for referees, coaches, and young aspiring players.

Moreover, there will be accommodations for athletes, jointly built in collaboration with the county. The project also aims to provide top-notch medical facilities for treating injured players.

The funding for the Technical Centre has already been made available by FIFA, ensuring that the construction can begin without any delay.

Mwendwa revealed that the expected timeline for the completion of the project is set at 18 to 24 months.
