The FKF Premier League got underway over the weekend, featuring eight matches held at different venues.
The opening matches of the season were characterized by low-scoring affairs, with half of the games (four out of eight) ending in goalless draws. Additionally, two matches were decided by a solitary goal.
FKF Premier League goals
Total goals scored in the opening weekend of the campaign were seven as 10 clubs registered clean-sheets in their matches.
After the weekend’s action, only three teams managed to secure maximum points and sit atop the league standings.
Nzoia Sugar, seemingly carrying their form from last season, lead the table with three points. They were the only team to score two goals during the weekend, securing a 2-1 victory over Ulinzi Stars in Bungoma.
Tied on points with Nzoia Sugar are newcomers Muranga Seals, who clinched a narrow victory against Shabana FC at Raila Odinga Stadium to start their top-tier life on a high. Former champions Tusker FC also bagged three points with a solitary-goal win over Bandari.
FKF Premier League champions
Defending champions Gor Mahia FC played to a 1-1 draw against Sofapaka, leaving both teams with a single point each.
Several other teams also opened their accounts with a single point, including AFC Leopards, FC Talanta, Kariobangi Sharks, Kenya Police, Bidco United, Posta Rangers, Nairobi City Stars, and Muhoroni Youth.
Meanwhile, Ulinzi Stars, Bandari, and Shabana FC find themselves at the bottom of the table with no points after suffering defeats in their respective matches.
It’s worth noting that Kakamega Homeboyz and KCB did not face each other as former was away in Libya for a CAF Confederations Cup match against Al Hilal.
Unfortunately, Homeboyz’s continental journey ended with a 4-1 loss in Libya. The Homeboyz-KCB match is anticipated to take place during the midweek.
