Record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia will be seeking to make amends in the second match of the 2025/2026 season when they face on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Dandora Stadium starting at 4:00 pm.

The Saturday fixture has put K’Ogalo head coach Charles Akonnor in demand of an immediate response from his charges after they shockingly lost 1-0 to Bidco United in their league on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

A meeting against Sofapaka under Ezekiel Akwana proves to be tricky for Gor Mahia, as Batoto ba Mungu also held former champions AFC Leopards to a 1-1 stalemate in their opening fixture of the new campaign on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

Reflecting on Gor Mahia’s performance in the Bidco defeat, Akonnor said they were the better side in the particular encounter, but a lack of composure before Bidco’s goal was their greatest undoing. His sentiments came when focus had shifted to their next meeting against another unpredictable opponent, Sofapaka.

The Green Army will enter the fixture as the favourites after beating Sofapaka in both home and away outings last season. However, their Ghanaian coach, Charles Akonnor, is a worried man following Gor Mahia’s wastefulness in front of the opponent’s goal, following his assessment of Bidco’s display.

Gor Mahia wasteful in attack

”The general assessment of the game was positive. We controlled the game but failed to make good use of our chances. It is a big problem in a game of football when you fail to create chances, but we were able to create chances. What we need now is a moment of magic where we will score those goals,” he said.

The last meeting between Gor Mahia and Sofapaka ended in a 2-0 win in favour of K’Ogalo, but Akwana’s side could seek to maintain their good start to the season against K’Ogalo.

”We just need composure to get those goals. The only time the opponent came into the game was when we casually lost the ball in the midfield. It was always our fault for getting them into the game. We will continue with the spirit. Today, what we lacked was the final composure; we have to improve on that,” Akonnor added.
