There was a drama during a football match played over the weekend between FKF Division One sides Nyota FC and Soy United after one of the teams was accused of fielding a player from a Premier League side.
Nyota FC, formerly known as MMUST FC, is accused of fielding Nzoia Sugar FC player Brian Wekesa who is currently involved in a premier league’s side.
Brian played a full 90 minutes in the match that ended 2-1 in favour of Nyota FC. His participation in the game that was played at Ivugwi Primary School led to ugly scenes due to the protest from the Soy United side.
Soy United FC has since written a formal complaint to the FKF Caretaker Committee over the matter and is expecting the university side to be docked points.
The club accuses Nyota FC of forging Wekesa’s identity cards so that he could take part in the game.
A scuffle escalated at the end of the match as angry fans surrounded the referee whom they claimed ‘was a relative’ to one of the Nyota FC officials.
Nyota FC is currently under the stewardship of Ibrahim Shikanda, a former Nzoia Sugar coach.
The incident arises at a time when most teams in Division One are having challenges in obtaining player identification cards from the FKF Caretake Committee.
