FKF Cup: Bungoma Stars shock Talanta, Police, Sofapaka qualify for round 16

Bungoma Stars continued their remarkable underdog journey, advancing to the FKF Cup round of 16 with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over FC Talanta at the Police Sacco Stadium on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

The decisive goal came in the 38th minute courtesy of Meshack Makokha, securing Bungoma Stars’ triumph over the FKF Premier League side FC Talanta.

Meanwhile, an intense battle unfolded at Kenyenya grounds, where SS Assad emerged victorious in a thrilling contest.

Hamisi Nyere broke the deadlock for SS Assad in the 70th minute, but Dominic Orweya quickly equalized for Bomachoge Borabu just four minutes later.

However, SS Assad regained the lead in the 79th minute through Hamidi Abdalla, and an own goal by Bomachoge Borabu’s Augustine Nyabuto in the final minutes sealed a 3-1 victory for SS Assad.

In addition to Bungoma Stars and SS Assad, Compel, Sofapaka, and Kenya Police also secured their places in the FKF Cup Round of 16 with impressive performances.

FKF Cup fixtures

Moving on to Sunday, a total of 11 matches are scheduled, starting from 12:00 p.m. There have been some changes in the fixtures, with Bumbani Stars versus Tusker now being played at Ukunda Showgrounds at noon.

This sets up a doubleheader, with Denmak versus Gor Mahia taking place at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday at the same venue.

Another doubleheader is lined up at Police Sacco Stadium, where Zetech Titans will face Mara Sugar at 12:00 p.m., followed by AFC Leopards taking on PAC University in the late kick-off match.
