Fifa invites ousted top FKF officials to attend its Thursday Qatar Congress

By , March 29, 2022

World football governing body Fifa has invited acting Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Dorris Petra and the association’s Chief Executive Officer Barry Otieno to their Congress meeting slated for Thursday in Qatar.

The duo is part of the football officials who were banned on November 12 when Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed disbanded the local federation and ordered that their headquarters be locked.

The global body also invited suspended Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) officials for the high profile meeting, where the suspension of the two federations is set to be ratified or stiffer penalties issued due to what Fifa terms as government interference.

The move clearly shows that Fifa only recognises the embattled officials. Amina suspended the entire FKF secretariat and executive members last year citing miss appropriation of funds and also ordered the locking of the secretariat offices, which is against the Fifa statutes. On February 24, Fifa president Gianni Infantino during a council meeting said that the council had found Kenya and Zimbabwe’s issues to be a clear case of undue interference by a third party.
