Fierce competition expected this weekend as 300 golfers tee off at the grand Lady Captain’s tourney
By Lucky Oluoch, February 12, 2025Ruiru Golf Club is set to host one of its biggest events this Saturday, with 300 amateur golfers expected to battle for top honours in the highly anticipated Lady Captain’s Tournament at the par 72 course.
The competition, themed “Celebrating a Year of Dedication,” will honour Lady Captain Rhoda Mukami’s tenure, which has seen the club achieve major milestones, including hosting prestigious tournaments and expanding its female golfing community.
The week-long festivities teed off yesterday with the Seniors Swing, a tribute to veteran golfers who have played a crucial role in mentoring upcoming talent.
Today, the club will extend its community outreach by visiting Ruiru Hospital, donating chairs to support new mothers.
Friday’s action will coincide with Valentine’s Day, featuring a mixed foursome event where players must don red and white. The climax will come on Saturday when the field of 300 players takes to the course, embodying the camaraderie and excellence that define Ruiru’s golfing culture.
Speaking ahead of the tourney, Lady Captain Mukami expressed pride in the club’s progress under her leadership, emphasising its commitment to unity, growth, and elevating golfing standards across Kenya.
“We have built a strong community, and this tournament is a celebration of our achievements and future ambitions,” she noted.
Similarly, senior golfer Margaret noted, ““As seniors, we are elated to be part of the Lady Captain’s prize. This is a true testament to the value the lady captain and club attach to the seniors, whose role in paving the way for budding enthusiasts has been critical. I know we will turn up in large numbers to enjoy ourselves on the course as we prepare for the main event on Saturday.”
Ruiru Golf Club has solidified its status as a premier golf venue, recently hosting 345 players for the ICEA Lion tournament.
The club’s reputation earned it the honour of hosting this year’s KLGU Golfer of the Year (GOTY) event, further cementing its place among Kenya’s top courses.
