The Kip Keino Classic, scheduled to take place on April 20 at Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium, promises to be a highlight on the Gold level tour.
The athlete’s journey in athletics has been remarkable, starting his career while studying chemistry at the University of Nairobi.
Since transitioning from rugby to track, Omanyala has achieved notable success, including winning the national title in the 100 meters in 2019.
In March 2021, Omanyala set a national record of 10.01 seconds in the 100 meters, further solidifying his status as one of Kenya’s top sprinters.
He continued to impress, setting a new personal best of 9.86 seconds later that year, becoming the first Kenyan to break the 10-second barrier.
Ferdinand Omanyala challenges
Omanyala’s achievements have not been without challenges, including a doping offence in 2017 that resulted in a 14-month suspension.
However, he has persevered and continued to excel on the track, securing victories such as becoming the African 100 meters champion in June 2022.
