The highly anticipated penultimate round clash between second-placed Falcons and Kenya Simbas rugby 15s Currie Cup fixture is set to go down at the Barnard Stadium in Kempton Park this Saturday at 4pm.
The match was initially scheduled to take place at the dreaded RFUEA grounds but a late change of venue broke Kenyan rugby fans who were eager to host the final two fixtures of the 2023 Mzansi Challenge.
The Simbas have so far won two matches against Border Bulldogs and Zimbabwe Goshawks. The latter was the recent clash that Kenya’s side won 48-7 at the Nakuru Athletic Club to send shivers to their next and final two oncoming rivals – who ra holding the first two positions in the 10-team tournament. Simbas team manager Jimmy Mnene is, however, still hopeful of upsetting the Falcons on their home turf.
“Our first win of the season was in South Africa and we have what it takes to upset Valke if we maintain our consistency and finish our last two fixtures on a strong note against the two best teams so far,” Simbas team manager Jimmy Mnene told People Sport from South Africa.
The penultimate round will have a total of five fixtures played. The other fixtures will give Zimbabwe’s and Namibia’s fans thrilling home encounters while native sides San Clement Rhinos will host EP Elephants.
Zimbabwe hopes of claiming their first seasonal win will still be alive against the table topper – SWD Eagles – who have only lost once so far while Namibia Welwitschias will play Boland Kavaliers on home turf.
