Faith Kipyegon breaks another record in USA
By Joel Masibo, October 11, 2025Five-time world champion Faith Kipyegon headlined the 2025 Athlos NYC by winning her second Athlos crown after running the fastest women’s mile ever on U.S. soil, clocking 4:17.78 on Friday night, October 10, 2025, at Icahn Stadium in New York City.
Athlons NYC is an invitational track meet for the world’s fastest women, designed to modernise the sport and provide significant prize money. The event is renowned for its substantial prize money, a strong focus on athlete experience, and modern production, often featuring music and DJ performances.

The triple Olympic champion has been having an outstanding season, as she started on a high in late April at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, where she clocked 2:29.21 over 1000m. Even Kipyegon missed the world record, registering the third-fastest time in history.
World Championships reflection
“First, I want to really thank God; this has always been my dream, to defend my 1500m title for the fourth time. Everyone out there was so talented; I knew I had to dig deeper than ever. Crossing that line and realising I had won again was truly special. But what made it even greater was seeing my teammates right there, too, gold and silver for Kenya. Such a proud moment for all of us,” Kipyegon said on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Her win in the women’s 1500m gave Kenya its third gold at the 2025 World Athletics Championships after she clocked 3:52.15 to cross the line, writing history at the competition after winning gold in 2017, 2022, 2023, and 2025.
Following the conclusion of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, in September, Faith Kipyegon has challenged her male compatriots to step up in the next competitions.
“Let me also take this opportunity to say a big thank you to the Ambassador in Tokyo, Moi Lemoshira. Your Excellency, he did an amazing job looking for ugali for Wanyonyi. I do not think Tungepata would have won a gold medal. Kama haingekuwa hiyo ugali amalizie finish line tupate ya men pia,” she said as Kenya’s athletics heroes were hosted at State House on Thursday, October 2, 2025, following their remarkable showing at the World Athletics Championships.
