Two-time Olympic 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon will line up at the Eugene Diamond League meeting that will be held on May 28 in Eugene. Kipyegon will feature in the 1,500m race where she hopes to prepare for the 2022 World Championships in Oregon.

Kipyegon came home second in a season-best of 8:38.05 during the opening leg of the Doha Diamond League last week.

“I have prepared well and I’m in good shape even though the field looks very stiff but with God, everything will be possible. These races present a good opportunity for me to keep preparing for the World Athletics Championship in Oregon,” Kipyegon said.

Maternity break

The Kenyan superstar has shown amazing consistency on the world stage, finishing within the top two at every global championship meet she has competed in since 2014.

After capturing gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2017 London World Championships, as well as claiming the Wanda Diamond League title in 2017, Kipyegon took an 18-month maternity break from running where she welcomed her daughter Alyn in 2018.

She made her return to the track at the 2019 Pre-Classic Eugene winning the 1500m in 3:59.04. She also claimed silver at the 2019 World Championships in Doha and defended her Olympic title in Tokyo in 2021.

After winning the Pre-Classic and Wanda Diamond League title last year, this year will mark Kipyegon’s eighth time competing at Pre-Classic Eugene Diamond League.

Kipyegon will once again go head-to-head with British superstar Laura Muir who claimed silver at the Olympics games when she crossed the line in a time of 3:54.50.

Kipyegon and Muir were separated by just over a second in Tokyo and will meet again alongside the likes of Cory McGee, Rababe Arafi and Winnie Nanyondo in Eugene.
