World Athletics Female Rising Star of the Year Faith Cherotich expressed gratitude to her global fans and coach Bernard Rono after securing the prestigious award.

Her achievements in 2023, including a bronze medal in the fiercely contested 3000m steeplechase at the World Championships, contributed to her well-deserved recognition.

Cherotich’s versatility shone through with her second position on the world U20 all-time list, clocking an impressive time of 8:59.65, and a notable fourth-place finish in the U20 category at the World Cross Country Championships.

Facing tough competition from athletes like Medina Eisa and Angelina Topic, Cherotich emerged victorious and extended her congratulations to fellow awardees.

“I’d like to congratulate all the winners of the awards, and again, I’d like to say thank you to my fans around the world and my coach Bernard Rono and the people managing me,” she said after the award.

The ceremony in Monaco honoured Kenyan stars, with Faith Kipyegon winning the Women’s World Athlete of the Year Award, Kelvin Kiptum named World Athlete of the Year – Out of Stadia Events, and Emmanuel Wanyonyi recognized as the Rising Star in the men’s category.

Cherotich, specializing in the 3000 metres steeplechase, had previously won a bronze medal at the 2021 World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Nairobi and later secured gold at the World U20 Championships in Cali.
