This triumph secured the title for Gor Mahia, leaving Tusker FC behind despite their 4-0 win at Mumias Complex against relegated Vihiga Queens. Gor Mahia have since been engaged in a series of celebrations.
On Monday, they enjoyed a luncheon hosted by Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, who also awarded them Ksh 3 Million.

On Tuesday, they met their club patron, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and proudly presented the trophy.
Later, they met with Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karauri, who also received the trophy and rewarded them with 3.5 Million shillings.
Gor Mahia jubilations
According to Bolo, Gor Mahia is still in a jubilant mood, emphasizing that the situation would have been different if Tusker had won the title.
Bolo referred to Gor Mahia as the “husband of teams,” implying that their rivals would not have sustained the same level of celebration due to their limited fan base.
“We are still in a celebratory mood. Today, SportPesa CEO Hon. Capt. Ronald Karauri received the 2022/23 Premier League trophy at SportPesa’s offices in Nairobi,” Bolo said in a statement.

“Imagine if Tusker FC had won the league; probably people would have forgotten that they are champions. Their five fans, players, TB, and management team cannot maintain the momentum of the celebration. We are indeed the husbands of teams,” she added.
Gor run
Gor Mahia, known for their large fan base, secured 70 points in 34 matches during the season, with 20 wins, 10 draws, and four losses.
They displayed a strong offensive performance, scoring 53 goals, placing them as the second-highest-scoring team behind Police FC, who netted 57 goals.
Defensively, Gor Mahia and Police FC both had the joint-best record, conceding only 22 goals. The club has received clearance to participate in the upcoming CAF Champions League.
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Tusker have received a significant boost as the Football Kenya Federation’s First Instance Body (FIB) granted them licenses to compete in CAF football for the next season.
These three top-tier clubs have fulfilled the CAF club licensing requirements and are now eligible to participate in the 2023-24 season of the Champions League and Confederation Cup.
The FIB, an independent decision-making committee established by CAF’s member associations, has the authority to approve or reject club license applications.
Five clubs, including the top four FKF Premier League clubs and the finalists of the FKF Cup Competition, were invited to apply for club licensing.
These clubs had to submit applications and meet the criteria in five pillars: sporting, infrastructure, personnel, administrative, legal, and financial.

The upcoming 2023-24 CAF Champions League will be the 60th edition of Africa’s premier club football tournament, organized by CAF.
The winners of this edition will earn an automatic qualification for the 2024-25 CAF Champions League and the opportunity to compete against the winners of the 2023-24 CAF Confederation Cup in the 2024 CAF Super Cup.
While no official announcement has been made, there have been indications from some media sources that the format of the competition may change starting from the 2023-24 season due to the introduction of CAF’s new tournament, the Africa Super League.
