Emmanuel Wanyonyi has won gold in the 800-metre race in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Wanyonyi clocked 1:41.19 to claim the Olympic 800m crown.

He is now the youngest-ever Olympic 800m champion and the third-fastest man ever in the 800m.

Wanyonyi, who arrived at the Olympics as a teenager, turned 20 nine days ago.

President William Ruto, in his congratulatory message, termed Wanyonyi’s win as a result of hard work and resilience.

“Hongera Emmanuel Wanyonyi for winning the men’s 800M race at the Paris Olympics. Finishing first in such a competitive race is a testament to your hard work and resilience. Thank you for flying the Kenyan flag high on the global stage,” Ruto said.

In his message, opposition leader Raila Odinga said Wanyonyi’s win was a result of determination, perfect pacing, and a thrilling finish.

Congratulations to Emmanuel Wanyonyi for a phenomenal 800m Olympic victory! His determination, perfect pacing, and thrilling finish were truly awe-inspiring. What an epic race! You have made all Kenyans proud. Bravo
