Embu 7s: KRU unveils semifinal pairing

By , August 24, 2025

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has revealed the last four pairings for the Embu Sevens circuit following the conclusion of the event’s main Cup quarterfinal clash this Sunday, August 24, 2025.

As per the fixtures, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) will battle it out against Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) in the first semifinal clash.

Bankers downed Kabras Sugar Rugby 21-5 to cement their dominance against the Westerners in the first quarterfinal clash.

MMUST edge Wanyore

On their part, the MMUST team claimed a narrow extra-time win against Nakuru’s RFC to advance to the last four.

In the clash, the Western-based team looked on course for qualification after a 14-0 lead before a late surge from Wanyore saw the tie proceed to the extra period.

Dennis Mwanja’s team, who secured a fourth successive appearance in the Embu series and currently ranks on top of the series standings, will be out to claim a third title after their triumph in the Driftwood series in Mombasa and the most recent Christie Sevens series.

In the second semifinal, Strathmore Leos will be seeking to get the better of Menengai Oilers.

Oilers head into the tie on an impressive run in the Christie Sevens, where the quest for the title ended in disappointment at the hands of eventual winners, KCB.

Menengai surge

Geoffrey Ominde’s team made it as the Pool C winners on an unbeaten run. In a show of grit and resilience, Geoffrey Ominde’s charges kicked off with a 21-12 win over Nakuru’s RFC.

The team moved from strength to strength, edging University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine and Nondies in their next Group C ties on 31-0 and 24-0 score lines.

Their latest triumph came over Kenya Harlequins in the main cup quarters.

Leos, under coach Willis Ojal, progressed to the Embu Sevens last four after a 29-5 win against Daystar Falcons in the main Cup quarterfinal tie.

The scholars rode on Victor Mola and Arnold Muita’s double tries to edge the Falcons in the clash, replicating KCB’s feat of a fourth successive semifinal appearance in the national series.
