Embu 7s: KCB cement dominance over Kabras to storms semis

By , August 24, 2025

KCB Rugby cemented their local dominance over 2024 Kenya Cup champions, Kabras Sugar Rugby Club, as the main Cup quarterfinal of the Embu Seven kicked off this Sunday, August 24, 2025, on a 21-5 score in Embu.

The clash pitting the rugby elite big boys saw the western team seeking to snap a star-studded Bankers, comprising seven international players, George Ooro and Floyd Wabwile, from their recent perch.

The latter was instrumental in setting up the banker’s lead as he followed up his kick-out before setting up Samuel Asati for the try. A successful conversion from Brian Wahinya took the Bankers to a 7-0 lead.

Bankers cruise

KCB extended their lead via a penalty try late in the first half after an infraction by Kabras for attacking from an offside position.

The lead proved too much to be surmounted, with a resolute KCB defense marshalled by Samuel Asati putting the Sugar men at bay.

A good exchange between Brian Tanga and Brian Mutua saw the visitors reduce the deficit through conversion at the corner flag for a 14-5 scoreline.

Kabras fights back

The resurgence was curtailed after Floyd Wabwile burst from the centre to extend Denis Mwanja’s team lead to 21 in what was the final try of the clash.

The outcome secured a fourth successful semifinal appearance from the in-form bankers’ side, who stand among the favourites for the Embu title.

The Falcons punched their way from a tough Pool A to claim a second quarterfinal slot following their impressive run in the Christie 7s.

The scholars’ run in the Christie 7s was brought to a stop in a 27-0 hiding from KCB, who went on to clinch the series.

On their part, Leos are gearing up for a fourth consecutive semis this 7s season after downing Catholic Monks 29-7 in the quarters of the Christie 7s.
