Eliud Kipchoge terms Tokyo Marathon preps beautiful journey

Two-time Olympic Champion Eliud Kipchoge is embracing the challenges of his preparation for the upcoming Tokyo Marathon, describing it as a “beautiful journey.”

With less than 36 days remaining until the event, Kipchoge has been engaging in rigorous training sessions, aiming to set the stage for success in the marathon scheduled for March 3, 2024.

Reacting to the preparation session he has had Kipchoge said: “The past weeks have been full of hard training sessions. I can say that this Tokyo marathon preparation is a beautiful journey so far. 37 days until the big day.”

Having announced his participation in the Tokyo Marathon as part of his buildup to the Paris Olympics, Kipchoge is returning to the city where he previously achieved a spectacular victory during the Tokyo Olympics.

His triumphant run in the Tokyo Marathon saw him secure first place with an impressive time of 2:02:40, marking the fourth-fastest time in history and establishing a new competition record.

As a marathon legend, Kipchoge boasts an illustrious career, including being the Olympic marathon champion in 2016 and 2020. He also holds the world record in the marathon with a remarkable time of 2:01:09, achieved at the 2022 Berlin Marathon.

While his record was surpassed in 2023, Kipchoge continues to be a dominant force in the marathon world, clinching victories in prestigious races such as the Chicago Marathon and London Marathon.

Looking ahead to the Paris Olympics, Kipchoge views the Tokyo Marathon as the ideal preparation to pursue his third consecutive Olympic title.
