Dominant Shujaa sweep rivals aside as Morans fall to KCB in Safari 7s

Kenya 7s had an unblemished performance on day one of the Safari 7s after beating rivals Uganda, Tropic 7s, and South Africa at RFUEA Ground on Saturday, November 18, 2023.

Against Tropic 7s, Shujaa converted two tries through John Okoth and Vincent Onyala as they set the tone of the encounter, which they dominated. The Shujaa’s lead was extended to 21 with a try after Patrick Odongo’s clinical move.

Tropic 7s challenged Shujaa’s dominance with an unconverted try, but the Kenyan side kept on fighting, and tries from Nigel Amasita and Brian Mutugi were enough to secure a 33-5 win.

Uganda outclassed

Meanwhile, Shujaa were also impressive against Uganda, as they claimed a 17-5 victory. Nygel Amaitsa’s touchdown gave Kenya the 5-0 lead as the opponents struggled to battel after they were reduced to six.

Kenya’s lead was extended to 10-0 after an impressive buildup that involved Onyala and Samuel Asati. Shujaa would have cruised to a healthier lead at this point had they not missed their conversions.

Uganda’s try came when Kenya casually played dangerously within their zone and lost possession, and this saw the former reduce the gap slightly after they missed their conversion.

Kenya, who had defeated South Africa 36-0, sealed their 17-5 win after John Okoth’s touchdown in the second half.

Shujaa’s junior side, the Morans, fell to KCB even after beating Western Province and Samurai in their initial two games. They fell to the Bankers by a 22-7 margin, and this was a sigh of relief for them after defeats to the Samurai and Germany.

Elsewhere, Kenya Lionesses were also impressive, with 52-10, 12-5, and 31-7 Safari 7s victories over Tuks, Uganda and Cubs.
