David Ouma promoted as head coach for Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars
By Luke Oluoch, January 5, 2026Kenyan tactician David Ouma has been elevated to the head coach role at Singida Black Stars, the Tanzanian top-flight outfit, replacing Miguel Gamondi, who recently took over the country’s coaching role.
The elevation comes after the former Harambee Starlets trainer guided the team on an interim basis as head coach for the 2025 season, prior to the arrival of the Argentine coach in the middle of the last season run.
Ouma’s appointment has been confirmed in a revamped technical bench that will see the former Sofapaka trainer work alongside Mousa Nd’aw and Muhibu Kanu as his assistants.
Appointments
“Singida BS intend to inform the public, supporters, and stakeholders that it has undertaken changes to its technical bench as follows,” part of the club statement read.
“The club has confirmed the appointment of Othmen Najjar as the club’s overall manager. He will work closely with new head coach, David Ouma, in collaboration with Mousa Nd’aw and Muhibu Kanu as his assistants,” the statement continued.
Redeployed
Meanwhile, Gamond will serve as the club’s technical director, in tandem with his capacity as the Taifa Stars head coach.
Ouma joined Black Stars on February 4, 2025, following the departure of Algerian coach Miloud Hamdi.

Ouma’s Achievements
His standout achievements during his tenure as the interim coach included guiding Singida Black Stars to the cup final of the CRDB Federation Cup, as well as leading the team to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederations Cup, following the team’s top-four finish in the Premier League campaign.
Ouma, alongside his compatriots, goalkeeper trainer Lawrence Webo and Brian Aswani, was part of the triumphant team that celebrated victory in the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam in September.
Speaking on Sunday, May 22, 2025, after the qualification for CAF inter-club competitions, Ouma revelled in the attainment of season targets.
“I’m motivated and happy to get this club the honours of featuring in the CAF games. It means we have achieved the targets we have set as a team. One of our main goals at the beginning of the season was to finish in the top four and qualify for CAF competitions.
“Many teams look forward to featuring in such games. The opportunity to compete in Africa is now here, and we have to show we are ready for the demands of the new stage,” he said.
