Cricket Kenya  Elections Panel issues code of conduct

Cricket Kenya’s Independent Elections Panel has released a raft of rules and code of conduct during the highly anticipated CK Elections slated for this Saturday.

Moments after releasing the list of 72 voters in the 24 counties that will take part in the elections, a communique by the Chair of the Panel Ken Wyne Mutuma gave out a voting roster that will help in managing the elections. This coming after voter education conducted by the panel Wednesday attracted only 15 people online – seven were government officials and seven stakeholders with only three eligible voters leaving out 69 in the process. According to the new directives, voters will be expected to either vote in person or appoint a proxy subject to article 7.1.1 (b) of the Cricket Kenya Constitution and the Electoral Regulations and Guidelines 2022.

Additionally, the CK Elections Panel has also stated that in the instance a Full Member, appearing in person to vote, or an Associate Member, appearing in person to vote, an identification card or passport will suffice. 

At the same time the Panel has disclosed that in the the instance of distance either voters i.e. full members or associate members, appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf, a filled and proxy form will be required by the election officials alongside a signed letter or email from the voter’s official email to the Independent Elections Panel stating that the voter is otherwise occupied and unable to vote in person and that the voter is appointing a proxy whose official name and Identification number must be indicated.

Meanwhile, ex-Kenyan international Asif Karim has lambasted the CK Normalisation Committee and the CK Independent Election Panel for failing to meet standards of a proper process. He has said that elections would never be a solution due to its divisiveness and interests.
