Cricket Kenya appoints Garnesh as new national team tactician

NAIROBI: Cricket Kenya Board has named Dodda Ganesh as the new head coachof the men’s national team in a ceremony held at the Sikh Union Grounds yesterday. ‘

The 51-year-old Bangalore native joins the team as they prepare for two ICC events to be hosted in Kenya this September and October: the ICC Division Two Challenge League and the ICC Twenty20 Africa Qualifier.

Ganesh, whose playing career took him to Karnataka Ranji where he was both a player and later a coach, led the team to win the Ranji Trophy in four of those years.

Speaking during his unveiling, the former Test player told the press he was ready for the challenge. “I am a man of few words and believe in action, so I expect us to hit the ground running with the players.

We have only three weeks before the ICC League, which is very important. This is a golden opportunity for me and my staff, and we look forward to starting to build the game up. I promise that nobody or nothing is bigger than the game.’

“This is our family, and we will work together for the betterment of the game. I am surrounded by people who are passionate about cricket, and we need to bring back the winning culture in Kenyan cricket.”
