Confusion grips hockey teams as KHU drag feet over qualifiers

Uncertainty surrounds the national hockey teams’ participation in the All Africa qualifiers Games for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games prevailed with the Kenya Hockey Union KHU not sounding positive the teams will travel Saturday to South Africa.
KHU chair Nahashon Randiek, in similar prose for the last two weeks, maintained the union was waiting for the final word from the Ministry of Sports in regarding funds release.
The week-long championships start on Monday at Stellenbosch University, Western Cape, South Africa.
Meshack Senge men’s team coach, Geoffrey Bila team manager and Vincent Muriuki, physiotherapist were all hope they will make to South Africa.
“Ask me all matters technical, team selection and even injury updates. I am sorry I am not permitted to speak on the itinerary,” Senge told People Wikendi.
“The players are still training well for the tournament,” said.
This even comes at a time experienced Butali Sugar Warriors keeper Linus Sang was dropped from the men’s team with rumours of a rift with the coaching department.
The women’s team headed by coach Tom Olal and Jane Nyamogo as team manager, also unceremoniously axed experienced Amira striker Pauline Naise from the team that is largely youthful.
Should they travel the men’s team will be hoping to qualify for the Olympics for the first time since 1988.
