Coach Okere demands action after Tusker keeper’s howler handed Gor Mahia victory
By Luke Oluoch, November 23, 2025Tusker FC coach Charles Okere has challenged the team to rise from its slumber and end what he termed as gifting their opponents easy goals.
Speaking on Saturday, November 22, 2025, after his team’s 1-0 loss to Gor Mahia, coach Okere lamented that a well-executed plan to contain Gor Mahia was undone when goalkeeper Brian Opondo’s costly error gifted K’Ogalo all three points at Kasarani Stadium.
Gifting goals
“This is a game that we controlled all through, but we conceded a goal that does not bode well for the level we are playing. We have to make adjustments as a team. We are gifting goals to other teams, and it will come to haunt us in the long run,” he bemoaned.
The tactician was particularly pained by his keeper’s handling error that resulted in Gor’s lead inside the opening eight minutes.
Opondo failed to take a harmless back pass within his stride as the ball squirmed beneath his foot for an own goal that made a spectacle of a Sunday league football match.
“The mistake was not an enforced one. He could have prevented it. We have given them an easy goal,” he stated.

For coach Akonnor, he described the victory as a win while admitting that it was not the best of performances from his charges.
After coasting to the advantage early on, Gor Mahia failed to extend their lead, spurning numerous chances in the clash.
Ugly win
“Sometimes you have to win ugly. It was not a good game for us; we struggled a little bit. We are happy with the three points. It would have been worse if we had drawn or lost,” he added.
Denis Oalo came within inches of restoring parity for the Brewers had his shot not been parried over the bar by keeper Bryne Omondi as the game wore on.
With the victory, Gor Mahia now have 19 points from eight matches, extending their lead over Kakamega Homeboyz, who sit second with 15 points.
