Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League Champions and runners-up in the last season Kakamega Homeboyz are still recovering from heartbreak after losing the title to Tusker FC on Sunday.

Brewers won by goal difference (+19) but tied on 63 points with the Kakamega side.

Coach Bernard Mwalala however cannot lay blame on his players but pointed an accusing finger at outside forces for interfering with progression of the game towards the end of the season.

Mwalala noted that two of their last five matches (against FC Talanta and Kariobangi Sharks) were not played. He said the two fixtures would have earned them more goals.

“We had a good chance of winning this championship considering our solid season until things happened in the last quarter of the season.

“My players gave everything but I can say some off-field issues like politics in the management of football and running of the league contributed to us missing out,” he said

The coach added that they had more goals than any other team, but they conceded too many unnecessary goals which messed them up.

“Having two walkovers is not necessarily a good thing when you have prepared a team to play yet the opponents fail to honour the matches,” he said.
