City Stars’ forward reveals target after shaking off long-term illness
By Collins Amanga, February 16, 2024
Nairobi City Stars forward Kelvin Etemesi is determined to increase his goal tally and narrow the distance between himself and the leading scorer, Benson Omalla.
Before his sickness layoff, Etemesi had scored three goals and provided as many assists, along with one key pass. In 14 games, he accumulated 841 regular time minutes on the field.
Nairobi City Stars’ absence
After a seven-week absence, Etemesi returned to training. His last match for City Stars was in December during their 1-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz.
Unfortunately, he fell ill during the festive season, sidelining him until his recent return to training.
Expressing his feelings on his comeback, Etemesi stated his desire to reunite with his teammates and is eager to make up for lost time.
“I have been out for a while but it has been my wish to link up with my teammates. I am now back and keen to catch up and return to the field once again,” Etemesi shared with City Stars media.
Currently trailing by six goals behind Omalla, Etemesi is determined to close the gap. Despite acknowledging the competitiveness of the league, he remains confident in his ability to reach peak performance.
“I want to score goals so that I can reduce the gap with the current top scorer. The league is tough but I believe with the current form of City Stars, it’s a matter of time before I get to the top,” Etemesi added confidently.
Nairobi City Stars coach
His head coach Nicholas Muyoti has hinted that the player will need more time to get ready and he revealed the club will give him good time to regain his form.
“It’s good to have him back after that illness that took a heavy toll on him. Now he can slowly start his journey back. We will lend him our hand and give him ample time to get back to full fitness,” Muyoti revealed.
“It’s a good idea to have him back in training. Psychologically it’s a big boost when he is around his bigger family – his teammates,” Muyoti added.
