Cavenagh comes out of retirement eye Rally Cross event
Two-time former Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) driver Alastair Cavenagh plans to come out of an injury-induced early retirement for a final ‘one off’ appearance in the inaugural Rally Cross Motorsports festival being organised by his friend and former team mate, multiple champion Carl Tundo.
The event takes place at the Machakos Stadium on 9 and 10 July. Following closely on the heels of the WRC Safari Rally the event is expected to draw massive crowds for a weekend of close action rally cross racing which will see some legendary names dusting off their gloves and competing against one another once again.
“I am greatly looking forward to it,” said Cavenagh who has not sat in a rally car for over 5 years and who was forced into early retirement due to a neck injury.
“I have no idea what car I will be driving but am confident that after a few laps I should be near the required pace to be able to compete at a reasonable level.
“Fans will be treated to two days of nonstop action involving some of the great names and heroes of yesteryears Motorsports in Kenya,” he said.
