Bunge Football Club on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, thrashed the team from the Council of Governors during a friendly match at the ongoing devolution conference in Homa Bay County.
The more experienced Bunge side, led by Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki, displayed dominance from the first whistle to the final moments of the game organized at the Tom Mboya University grounds.
“The high-energy clash, played before an enthusiastic crowd of conference delegates, showcased Bunge FC’s attacking prowess from the onset, with the legislators outpacing and outmaneuvering their county counterparts in the game,” a statement from Parliament reads in part.
Slicing through defence
“From the very first whistle, Bunge FC took command. With sharp passing, blistering pace, and an unrelenting attacking mindset, the legislators sliced through the governors’ defence. The opening goal came early, setting the tone for what would become an exhibition of skill and teamwork that left the crowd roaring in appreciation.”

The match was woven seamlessly into the conference’s wider activities, which run under the theme “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice.”
Under the composed leadership of their captain, Senator Mohamed Faki of Mombasa, Bunge FC had netted three goals by half-time, each celebrated with jubilation.
Unrelenting Bunge FC
The second half was no different as the Parliamentarians scored two more goals, ensuring the governors’ side left the field visibly deflated.
As the final whistle blew, Tom Mboya University grounds erupted as the lawmakers and staff poured onto the pitch, breaking into song and dance, their celebrations a colourful, triumphant show.
The victory comes amid a spirited fight by the national side Harambee Stars, who have yet to concede their three group A matches in the ongoing CHAN 2024 tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Harambee Stars have displayed a consistent style of play, upsetting age-long records to stay top of the group A standings with 7 points.
Buoyed by the massive turnout of football fans and life-changing money promised for every game won or drawn, the Kenyan side is proving to be a force to reckon with in the tournament.
