Botswana post impressive results
Little Botswana came and conquered, albeit in a foreign territory, following their shocking 30-run win over hosts Kenya to claim their second win of the ongoing Africa Continental Twenty20 Cup.
Joseph Angara got the better of his countryman David Obuya a well-calculated victory after an all-round performance from the Southern African team who are now on four points. Following a successful opening session where they posted solid numbers on the board, the bowling department equally came good, only allowing the opponents a score total of 115-all out to ensure Kenya slipped to the second place in the log with eight points.
Botswana who won the toss selecting to bat, posted an impressive 145-8 on the board in their allotted overs. Opening batsman and Man of the Match Vinoo Balakrishnan (55 runs off 38 balls) was the top-scorer for his side with his contribution in the opening innings including five boundaries and two sixes.
Kenya’s bowling department did not do justice to themselves as some easy balls made Botswana reign and shine.
The duo of Botswana batsmen including Captain Karabo Motlankha and Ameer Saiyeed, both, weighed in with 26 runs on the board to help shore up the numbers for the sky blue team.
However, towards the end of the innings, Botswana’s batting order collapsed with Kenyan all-rounder Vishil Patel (4 for 27) leading the charge. Patel was responsible for two ducks in the game as he fell Phemelo Silas (0 in 02 balls) and Drhruvkumar Maisuria (0 in 03 balls) after catching them both inside a single over to the joy of the Kenyan spectators in the stands under the chilly weather.
Meanwhile, Uganda once again got the better of their neighbours Rwanda in a seven-wicket win in the early morning clash which concluded with 63 balls in the bag. Ugandan ace Henry Ssenyondo (4-7) was named man of the match after a solid display with the ball on the crease. The win ensured Uganda went top on 10 points after five wins with the all-conquering Botswana next for them.
Rwanda who batted first set out a score total of 85 on the board in the opening innings with the Ugandan bowling department calming any real threat from the opposing batsmen. Eric Dusingizimana (27 runs off 20 balls) and Wilson Niyitanga (21 runs off 24 balls) were the main run-getters for the Rwandese. Alpesh Ramjani for Uganda also helped with a two-wicket haul in his bowling session inside four overs.
After the break, Uganda did just enough to sail through with a score of 87-3. Riazat Ali Shah (30 runs off 21 balls) emerged as the top scorer in the chase for Uganda. The duo of Roger Mukasa (29 runs off 25 balls) and Simon Ssesazi (22 runs off 09 balls) also contributed to the innings for the Pearl nation.
Martin Akayezu for Rwanda claimed two wickets in the innings for Rwanda inside two overs.
