‘Bling’ promises more with Shujaa after steering them to Paris 2024
Kenya sevens rugby head coach Kelvin Wambua has vowed to leave a lasting legacy at the helm of the national team, after steering them to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Speaking to People Sports after jetting in back from Harare, Wambua did not mince his words and with confidence promised to make Kenya shine at the global stage.
“We had a dream, we were bold, we did not let down, we worked hard, the boys did a massive shift and they delivered.” said Wambua on Tuesday in Nairobi.
He added that many doubted him when he included six rookies in the squad, but his ideas are based on the foundations of taking chances and giving opportunities.
Wambua’s charges on beat favorites South Africa 12-7 at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday to qualify for a third successive Olympics tournament after debuting at the first one in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro back in 2016 where Kenya finished second last at 11th place.
“ The squad has been trying to make a mark at the Olympics, but this time round we have to come up with something that will make Kenyans feel proud,” said the coach.
