Betway back in operation as gaming bill draws close

Betway Kenya announced restoration of its services following clearance by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and subsequent issuance of an operating licence by the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB).
The company in a statement, said they had worked with relevant authorities for strict levels of compliance having fulfilled requirements by BCLB and other government bodies.
Elsewhere, National Assembly Committee on Sports, Culture and Tourism in their new gaming bill are proposing friendly tax regimes to companies that will be sponsoring sports in the country.
The Bill, due for its second reading proposes the establishment of The National Gambling Authority, The National Lottery Trust Fund and the Gaming Appeals Tribunal.
“The government has suffered setbacks on a number of occasions as it has attempted to introduce stringent measures to control gambling, especially among the youths,” said Munyaka.
Munyaka spoke in Nairobi during a retreat with the BCLB officials led by new CEO Peter Mbugi and representatives from Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK), the chair says the bill will be fast tracked in the next two months before it is assented to law by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We are looking forward to the second reading from which views will be incorporated. The intention is to overhaul the previous laws that has brought problems,”said Munyaka.
