Bernard Mwalala reveals what Kenya should expect from Harambee Stars’ coach McCarthy
Former Bandari head coach Bernard Mwalala has revealed what Kenyans should expect from Harambee Stars‘ new head coach Benni McCarthy.
The South African was appointed as the men’s senior team coach, and Mwalala, who played against the former Bafana Bafana striker in 2019, has explained what kind of football tactics the new tactician is likely to implement.
Mwalala, while in charge of Bandari, faced McCarthy’s Cape Town City in 2019 in a pre-season friendly game, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
“I remember when I came up against him during my time at Bandari; he set up his team to play attacking football throughout.
“We have also seen him stick to the philosophy in the teams he has managed in South Africa. His players are always comfortable with the ball and play attractive football,” Mwalala told a local publication.
The former KCB coach also said that McCarthy is the right tactician to take charge of Harambee Stars.
“He is the right man for the job. We have secured the services of a man who has played the game and coached at the top level. I have no doubt in my mind that he will improve our fortunes,” he added.
McCarthy’s promise

When he was appointed, McCarthy himself expressed confidence that Kenya has talent that can help Harambee Stars compete at the highest level.
“I have studied the talent in this country, and I believe there is immense potential to compete at the highest level. Together with my coaching team, including Vasili Manousakis, Moeneeb Josephs, and Pilela Maposa, we are committed to building a structured, disciplined, and competitive squad.
“Our goal is to develop a strong team identity, play exciting football, and make the nation proud. I look forward to working with the players, the federation, and the passionate Kenyan fans to achieve success,” he told the media.
