Battle for national team spots heats up in Crricket Kenya’s Women’s League

The annual senior Women’s Cricket League, organised by Cricket Kenya (CK), is set to kick off today after a week-long postponement caused by heavy rains in Nairobi.
The league will feature 90 top players from various clubs and serve as a selection ground for the national cricket team, according to CK Western Region development manager Peter Ongondo.
He revealed in an interview with People Sport that the league was initially scheduled to begin last week on Tuesday but was delayed due to waterlogged sports grounds in the capital city.
“CK had to postpone the commencement of the Senior Women’s League last week because heavy rains rendered several designated cricket grounds in Nairobi unsuitable for play,” noted Ongondo.
Among the venues identified for the league are Ruaraka Sports Club and Simba Union. The tournament will run for two weeks and will culminate in the selection of 14 top players to join Kenya’s national cricket team.
Ongondo added that the 90 players competing in the league are drawn from eight Nairobi-based teams: Kanbis Sports Club, Ruaraka Sports Club, Kenya Development, Cutchileva Sports Club, 11 Sports Club, Sikh Union, Sir Ali and Swamibapa Sports Club.
