Azam confirm Kenneth Muguna’s exit

Tanzanian Premier League side Azam have officially confirmed the departure of Harambee Stars midfielder Kenneth Muguna and Rodgers Kola from their club.

Azam FC who currently hold the third position in the league, expressed gratitude for the contributions of Muguna and Kola and extended their best wishes for their future endeavors.

In a statement released by the club, Azam FC thanked Muguna and Kola for the memories they created during their time with the team.

The club acknowledged their dedication and efforts, recognizing their impact on the field and within the club’s community.

“Ahsanteni sana kwa kumbukumbu zenu ndani ya klabu yetu, tunawatakia kila la kheri muendapo (Thank you very much for your memories within our club. We wish you all the best wherever you go),” the club announced.

On Tuesday, Muguna announced his departure from the Chamazi, Temeke-based club. In a heartfelt statement, Muguna expressed his gratitude for his time at the club.

Muguna shared the news of his exit from Azam FC, stating that it had been a great experience during his two-year tenure with the club.

The Harambee Stars midfielder bid farewell to the club and expressed his appreciation for the opportunities and memories created during his time there.

Muguna, a talented midfielder, made headlines on July 21, 2021, when he joined Azam FC on a two-year deal, leaving behind a successful stint with Gor Mahia.

Muguna’s arrival at Azam FC was met with excitement and high expectations, given his impressive track record and proven skills on the field.

During his time at Gor Mahia, Muguna’s impact was undeniable. He played a pivotal role in the team’s success, contributing to 18 goals by scoring five and providing 13 assists that led to clear-cut chances resulting in goals.

Muguna’s top-class performances did not go unnoticed, as he was rightfully named the Best Player in the Betway Cup, further solidifying his reputation as a standout player.

In addition to his remarkable achievements, Muguna was honoured with the prestigious Most Valuable Player (MVP) title in 2016.

At just 20 years old, he received recognition as the Midfielder of the Year, and he was also a runner-up for the New Player of the Year award.

To commemorate his exceptional accomplishments at such a young age, Muguna was awarded a remarkable prize of Ksh 1.6 million, the highest ever won by a Kenyan footballer in the league by a youngster.

Although Muguna briefly played in Albania, he ultimately returned to Gor Mahia in 2018, where he continued to thrive and contribute significantly to the team’s success.

Together with his teammates, he celebrated three consecutive Kenya Premier League (KPL) titles, further cementing his legacy as a key contributor to the club’s triumphs.

Muguna’s prowess extended beyond the club level, as he earned his first call-up to the Harambee Stars national team in 2016.

He showcased his impact during a friendly match against Uganda in 2019, scoring a crucial equalizer that resulted in a 1-1 draw between the rival teams. His performances for the national team highlighted his skill and versatility as a midfielder.
