Kenya Rugby League Federation (KRLF) who are the organisers of the first edition of the Benjamin Ayimba Legacy annual tournament have announced that the tournament will take place at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos from 7-9 April 2023.

KRLF has partnered with Bunson Travel and Semara Hotel and has crafted a deal set to give fans a proper experience during the extravaganza.

The tournament is hosted to remember and honour the late Benjamin Ayimba, a Kenyan rugby icon.

“This will be a special tournament and one of its kind. As much as we will be having a good time on and off the pitch, we will also be celebrating the life of a fallen brother who played a critical role in developing rugby,” said KRLF Chairman Quicks Nyakwaka.

According to Julie Dabaly the Managing Director Brunson Travel, fans eager to travel to Machakos during the Easter weekend for the tournament will be able to get different packages that will cater for their needs as they endeavour to give fans a great experience.

“We have decided to partner with KRLF to make this tournament a great experience for all that are planning to attend. Ayimba will always be remembered as a great rugby legend and in his honour, we are delighted to be part of this tournament even as we strive to develop sports talent in the country”

Ayimba who had been in and out of hospital since 2020 passed away on 22 May 2021 after battling cerebral malaria.

He was the first Kenyan and African coach outside of South Africa to win a World Rugby Sevens Series Cup title in 2016 at the Singapore Sevens.
