“This is to inform you that the Athletics Kenya 2023-2024 season will start with the First Cross Country Weekend Meeting on October 14, 2023, at the Machakos People’s Park in Machakos County.
“This will be followed by the Second Cross-Country Weekend Meeting to be held on October 21, 2023, in Kapsokwony (AK Western Region),” AK said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.
AK also emphasized the need for athletes to take part in the races before the season starts.
“We encourage athletes from all over the country to plan to participate in these events as preparations for the season commence,” it added.
The body in charge of athletics in the country is set to release the season’s calendar.
“In the meantime, the AK Technical Committee, comprising representatives from all the AK regions and affiliates, is in the process of developing the calendar of events for the season.
“The full calendar of events will be released in due course,” the statement concluded.

Good season
In the last season, Kenyans did not disappoint on the international stage, as the athletes produced notable performances at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest and in the Diamond League series. Kenya won three golds courtesy of Faith Kipyegon, who excelled in the 1500m and 5000m, while Mary Moraa reigned supreme in the 800m.
Although the country fared quite well in the Riga World Road Running Championships, Kipyegon tasted her first loss of the season there.
