Athletics Kenya regional cross country action on today in selected counties

Thrilling action is expected as Athletics Kenya (AK) Regional Cross Country Championships take place today and tomorrow in selected regions.
AK Central Rift cross country championships will be held on Saturday when athletes will run to earn tickets to the national championships and other international races.
The regional meet is set for Sinonin Secondary School in Baringo county.
The region is endowed with quality field from Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Baringo counties.
Baringo have selected a formidable team to represent them during the event. Speaking to People Sports, Nairobi AK chairman Barnabas Korir said they had laid down proper preparations for the new athletics season and the program has already been set.
“We have already selected a provisional team, since there are many competitions ahead, we have a plan and preparations are underway, before world indoor games in Glasgow Great Britain we have the Sirikwa classic,” said Korir.
From baringo 10km senior women Naomy Kemboi will battle out with Valentine Jemutai, Evelyne Chepchirchir, Irine Jepkosgei, Mercy kibet and Faith Kipkorir.
While in 10km men Shadrack Kiptoo will lead Kelvin Kiplagat, James matelong, Peter Tuitoek, Rodgers Kosgei and Jonathan Kamasong to fight for the title.
From Nandi County 10km senior women will be led by Roselinda Jepketer, Aurelia Kiptui, Joy Kemuma and Abigael Jelagat. While in 10km senior men Philip Tarus will battle out with Evans Kipkorir ,Emmanuel Bor , Fredrick Bett and Peter Lagat.
AK North rift region will have their championships at Kishaunet in WestPokot County where a strong team to represent the region at the Nationals will be selected.
North Rift region comprises of Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot and Samburu counties.
Kenya Defence Forces Cross Country Championships will be held at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi on Friday while National Police Service Cross Country Championships will take place at Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi and University Cross Country Championships will be held at Kabarak University in Nakuru County on the same day.
National Youth Service Cross Country Championships will be held at NYS paramilitary Academy in Gilgil and Kenya Prisons Service Cross Country Championships at Kenya Prisons training college Ruiru on Saturday.
Athletes competing at the regions will be seeking to get a slot at the Sirikwa World Cross Country Gold Tour event which will mark its third edition this year at Lobo Village in Eldoret.
