Athletics Kenya: No athlete will be allowed to participate in any event without being registered

By , January 8, 2025

Athletics Kenya (AK), the governing body for the track and field, marathon, road races and cross-countries sports, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, announced a mandatory registration exercise for athletes.

In a notice, AK noted that the registration system was designed to enhance the services offered to athletes and other personnel.

Following its launch, Athletics Kenya made it clear that no athlete would be allowed to take part in any athletic event without being registered in the AK Database Management System.

“Athletics Kenya launched a streamlined athlete registration system designed to enhance the services offered to athletes and athlete support personnel.

“We wish to notify all athletes and athlete support personnel that going forward, no athlete will be allowed to participate in any Athletics event without being registered in the AK Database Management System,” the notice read in part.

AK noted that the athletes would be barred from cross- country and track and field weekend meetings from county, regional, national championships, trials for World Athletics Championships and road races across the country.

No services too

Moreover, AK added that those who fail to register would not access essential services such as receiving support letters.

The athletics governing body however implored the athletes to register to avoid missing key services that could derail their prospects in taking part in races both locally and internationally.

“Furthermore, registration is mandatory for any athlete who wish to receive Athletics Kenya services including issuance of various support letters. A registration link will be shared with athletes who reside out of the country in due course.

“Athletics Kenya urges all athletes to ensure they are registered without delay. The registration process is continuous at the Athletics Kenya offices in Riadha House, Nairobi and 21 Floor, Daima Towers, Eldoret and at all Athletics Kenya organised events,” AK maintained.

While launching the registration exercise, AK indicated that athletes would have their specific dashboards which will display their details and help them track participation in various races.

“Upon successful registration, athletes will receive a confirmation email with access to their personalized participant dashboard. This dashboard allows you to view key information, track your participation, and update select details as needed,” AK explained during the launch.
