5 top level, exciting athletic events to look upto in 2024
With the 2024 Olympic Games coming, 2024 is promising to have some top level and exciting events that fans will look forward to and enjoy.
Kenyan athletes are expected to break more records after an impressive 2023 season that saw Faith Kipyegon, Eliud Kipchoge, Kelvin Kiptum, Faith Cherotich and Beatrice Chebet shatter records in different disciplines.
Now, what are the top five events that will take place this year?
1. Paris 2024 Olympic Games
This is the biggest event of the year and as usual, Kenya, being a giant in the athletics, will attract a considerable global attention.
The Games return to the French capital for the first time in 100 years and 2000 athletes from different countries will converge and battle for top honours in the summer.
The games will start on August 1 and ends on August 11 where 48 disciplines will be on display.
2. World Athletics Indoor Championships
In March, Glasgow will host the world for the first global track and field championships of the year.
Tripple jump and pole vault will get a cosnderable attention after Mondo Duplantis and triple jumper Yulimar Rojas set world records to claim gold in Belgrade two years ago.
The duo will be looking to add to their medal and record tall when they will compete in Glasgow.
3. Bahamas World Athletics Relays
The competition will begin from May 4 and end a day later, according to World Athletics.
It will be held for the first time since 2017 in Bahamian capital as the global event returns to the venue of the first three editions.
Here, athletes will be vying to secure their place in the 4x100m, 4x400m and mixed 4x400m for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
4. Belgrade World Athletics Cross Country Championships
Recent editions were held in Aarhus and Bathurst and the Serbian capital will host this year’s competition after being home to the World Indoor Championships two years ago.
5. Lima World Athletics U20 Championships
Two years ago, Cali hosted this global event which saw Kenya’s Faith Cherorich, conquer the world.
As the competition returns to South America, Lima will become the first city in Peru to host a World Athletics Series event.
It will take place between August 27 and 31.
