Athletics Kenya implements stricter measurers for trials

By , July 6, 2023

Athletics Kenya (AK) is set to host runners from across the country in this year’s World Athletics Championships trials that will be held tomorrow and Saturday at the Nyayo Stadium.

In the two-day event, the federation will pick a team that will fly the Kenyan flag in this year’s World Championships slated for August 19-27 in Budapest, Hungary.

However, AK has set out a raft of measures to be observed with AK President Jackson Tuwei saying the trials will be by invitation only.

Tuwei, on his part, added all the athletes who will compete have met the anti-doping rules and some could be subject to meeting the entry standards.

According to the AK boss, the top two athletes to cross the finish line will earn automatic qualification in Team Kenya with the third athlete being picked by a panel of selectors.

Tuwei also urged all invited participating during the trials should personally collect their own bib numbers today failure to which they will not be allowed to compete.

The athletes invited for trials are required to come with their passports and identity cards and according to Tuwei they will be accommodated after trials for purposes of documentation and other administration requirements, something that has not happened before.
