All set for Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru, as KBL pumps in Sh2m

The fifth and penultimate leg of the Kenya Rugby Union national circuit is set to kick off at Nakuru Athletics Club on Saturday as top guns gear up to culminate the circuit on a high note.
Host Nakuru RFC are exuding confidence in winning the tournament and climbing from position eight in the ranking of the national seven.
Nakuru who are in Pool B lost 14-10 to Kabras Sugar in the Challenge finals of the Dala Sevens in Kisumu last weekend.
The hosts are expected to face rivals Menengai Oilers, Masinde Muliro and Kisumu in their preliminary matches.
Dala Sevens champions Homeboyz will renew their rivalry with Kabras Sugar at the fifth leg and have been grouped in Group A alongside Catholic Monks, Kabras Sugar and Western Bulls.
Two-time losing finalists Menengai Oilers will headline Group B which also features Masinde Muliro, Top Fry Nakuru and Dala Sevens hosts Kisumu RFC.
Reigning National Sevens Circuit champions KCB are in Group C alongside Nondescripts, Impala and Kenya Harlequin.
Group D features Mwamba, Strathmore Leos, Blak Blad and the Vihiga Granites.
Heading to Nakuru, circuit defending champions KCB top the log with 75 points after four legs played and are followed closely by Menengai Oilers 72 points, with Strathmore Leos and Mwamba RFC in third and fourth respectively.
Dala sevens champions Homeboyz come in at number five with 60 points and Kenya Harlequins are in position six with 36 points accumulated.
This year’s school tournament has attracted teams from Nairobi, Nakuru and Nanyuki and will be divided into three categories- Under-12, Under-18 and Under-14.
The second-tier competition has attracted a total of 24 teams led by the Daystar Falcons who were relegated from the first division after an impressive four-tournament run.
The tournament is named in honour of South African Pete Walter Prinsloo, who was a player at the club and greatly influenced many young players at the club back in the 1980s.
Nakuru’s residents will no doubt be hungry to watch sevens action after two years of little rugby thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Simon Wariuki-coached side last won the tournament in 2015 when they beat Homeboyz 7-5.
