‘AFC Leopards owe fans apology’ – Trucha after loss to Nairobi City Stars
By Joel Sang, November 5, 2023
AFC Leopards head coach Tomas Trucha has said the Football Kenya Federation Premier League side owes its fans an apology after losing to Nairobi City Stars on Saturday, November 5, 2023.
The 3-2 loss came after Ingwe had gone two games without losing, and this was a big blow to their rejuvenation dream after spending weeks in the relegation zone.
The giants registered their first win of the season during the match against Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium before managing a point against Kariobangi Sharks in the subsequent game that ended in a goalless draw.
They were hoping to win against an inconsistent Nairobi City Stars, but their hopes were dashed off as Simba wa Nairobi displayed courage, determination, and grit to win in the five-goal thriller.
Apology
While explaining what made them lose, Trucha said their fans deserve an apology.
“We controlled the game, maintaining possession and creating chances. Despite some shots, we conceded a goal seemingly out of nowhere, possibly due to a lack of communication between the goalkeeper and the players on the wall.
“In the second half, considering we had played three games in six days, I aimed to introduce fresh legs. However, another miscommunication between the defense and the goalkeeper led to us conceding a second goal.
“We persevered and managed to score two goals. But we owe an apology to our fans. They continued to support us even when we were down 3-0. We need to regroup and will analyze our performance thoroughly as we look forward to the next game against Posta Rangers,” Trucha said in his post-match press conference.
Next for AFC Leopards is a game against the in-form Rangers. The Mailmen have shown solidity and sharpness in front of goal and are currently at the top of the table, a point ahead of Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards’ traditional rivals.
