AFC Leopards SG Mulindi expresses concern over disunity at the club

AFC Leopards Secretary General Isaac Mulindi has raised the alarm over what he describes as a worrying trend of disunity and disregard for established structures within the club.

In a statement seen by People Sport on Friday, August 1, 2025, the newly elected official voiced his displeasure with actions taken by certain individuals and club branches that he believes threaten the integrity and smooth functioning of the historic club.

“I must address the concern over the growing trend that threatens the unity and proper functioning of our beloved club. There are individuals and even some branches who seem to forget that AFC Leopards is a community club, governed by a board and guided by the National Executive Committee and managed by the Secretariat headed by the Secretary General, a position I hold by the will of the members,” Mulindi said.

He emphasised the importance of respecting the club’s governance protocols and warned against rogue decisions made outside the knowledge of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Chief Executive Officer.

“It is disappointing and unacceptable when a branch chooses to act independently, making decisions and taking actions without notifying the NEC, or even the CEO. This not only undermines the club’s governance but also disrespects the structures that keep this club accountable and functional,” Mulindi continued.

The Secretary General, who took office following the club’s recent elections, noted that failure to adhere to the club’s operating procedures could prompt him to take formal action.

“As the duly elected Secretary General, I feel deeply offended by these actions. Let it be known that if such disregard continues, I will not hesitate to issue formal warnings and ensure that discipline is maintained. No individual owns AFC Leopards; it belongs to all of us, its members, its fans and the community,” he added.

AFC Leopards, one of Kenya’s most storied football clubs, has long prided itself on being a community-run institution with 12 Kenyan Premier League titles. However, Mulindi’s strong remarks suggest that internal friction could pose a serious challenge to the club’s stability if left unchecked.

Isaac Mulindi was elected to office after the death of the former office bearer, Gilbert Andugu, who died earlier in the year. Last season, AFC Leopards finished 6th in the FKF Premier League standings with 51 points in 34 outings.
