AFC Leopards defender Kennedy Owino has expressed his surprise at scoring his first goal at the den against his former team, Posta Rangers.

Owino, who joined AFC Leopards from Posta Rangers in the January transfer window, netted the decisive goal on Sunday at Machakos Stadium.

AFC Leopards maximum points

The goal secured maximum points for AFC Leopards after dropping points in two previous matches.

Reflecting on his unexpected goal, Owino emphasized seizing the opportunity and fulfilling the team’s promise to their fans.

“I never expected to score against my former team, but when the opportunity came, I had to make good use of it and open my goals account in the den.

“We made a promise to our fans and we lived up to it. We are hoping to continue with the same momentum until the end of the season,” Owino stated on the AFC Leopards official portal.

AFC Leopards praise

Owino praised his teammates for their performance during the match, particularly emphasizing their strategy to capitalize on offensive set pieces due to the wet surface.

“It was a tough match against Posta Rangers but I’m impressed with how everyone carried themselves on the pitch.

“We knew the surface would not be good so we worked on our offensive set pieces and it paid off. That’s an important win for us ahead of the Mashemeji Derby,” Owino added.

The defender, who joined Leopards in February, rose high to head home Brian Wanyama’s corner kick against the mailmen in Match Day 25 in Machakos on Sunday.

This is the type of performance head coach Tomas Trucha needed after a two-game winless run in the FKF Premier League.

AFC Leopards are placed eighth on the log and will face Gor Mahia next Sunday in the return leg of the FKF Premier League Mashemeji Derby.
