A record 41 teams confirm taking part at aquatics national championships

A record 41 teams have confirmed their participation in the upcoming Kenya Aquatics Nationals Swimming Championships scheduled for May 18-19 at the Mpesa Foundation Academy in Thika, Kiambu County.
Speaking at St Bakhita School in Machakos County, Sea Horses Aquatics Swimming Club manager Peter Mwangangi, was confident of the preparations saying that the national championships will also offer an opportunity for his athletes to be selected to the national team for the December world championships.
“So far we are doing well and all of our 43 swimmers are responding well to whatever we are throwing their way. I am positive that we are going to do well in the national championships and some of them will be selected for national assignments,” said Mwangangi.
The national Swimming Championships will also serve as a qualifier for the World Aquatics Swimming Championship in December this year, a global event that has already been slated for Budapest, Hungary.
With 41 teams already confirmed for the national showdown at Mpesa Foundation, neighbors Uganda have also expressed interest to participate in the event with already 15 swimmers having have met the world championships qualifying standards from Uganda’s Torpedoes Swimming Club.
The Kampala based Swimming Club’s Director John Timbe has emphasized the need for exchange programs.
