Kenya commit to guiding Ghana in creating its anti-doping agency
Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) and The National Anti-Doping Authority of Ghana (NADA-Ghana) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will ensure that Ghana can develop an anti-doping program in compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code and the related international standards, and for ADAK to advise and to render consultations to NADA-Ghana.
The MoU will provide a framework that will assist Ghana to have an established, independent anti-doping organization with adequate long-term resources and jurisdiction on anti-doping. This partnership will also guide Ghana on the steps required to be compliant with anti-doping rules as outlined by WADA.
During the three years mentorship period, when the MoU will be effective, Ghana will be able to create a functioning anti-doping program with room for development to ensure compliance with the Code, including doping control, intelligence and investigations, education, results in management panels with adequate competence that are operationally and institutionally independent, as required by the WADA Code.
While signing the MOU, ADAK’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Sarah Shibutse noted, “Kenya has made great strides in the fight against doping in sport. Many lessons and experiences have been learnt in the long run. ADAK is willing to assist Ghana in establishing its National Anti-Doping Organization.”
Nana Afriye, Chairman of the Committee on Health in the Ghanian Parliament observed that the partnership shall assist in the development of mutually agreeable approaches for strengthening the fight against doping in Ghana.
